Meet Mary Mulcahy – Spark’s Field Director

There’s something about Mary: Get to know our new Field Director – Mary Mulcahy!

You might have heard that Spark has recently welcomed the renowned Field Director Mary Mulcahy on board. She comes to Spark with an abundance of experience and knowledge, particularly in face to face large scale market research. We decided to ask her a few questions:

How did you find your way into the fieldwork industry?

I worked in Marketing so I understood the importance of the market research industry to brands and society in general, so Market Research was the next logical step for me.

What do you love most about your role?

My role has amazing variety as I get to work with clients and our f2f Interviewers in field. I’m involved throughout the whole process; from preparing the project proposal, briefing the Interviewers, and managing the fieldwork from commencement to conclusion.

Is there a typical working day when it comes to fieldwork?

There is never a dull moment, I am always busy – from getting progress reports from the Interviewers to giving fieldwork updates to the clients. I’m never off the phone!

What’s the strangest talent you have?

I have a distinct talent for colliding with other skiers on the slopes

Describe yourself in 3 words:

Hardworking, passionate and trustworthy

Do you have any strange phobias?

Cats and the woods

What, or who, are you a “closet” fan of?

George Clooney

What changes have you seen over the years in research in Ireland?

I’ve seen lots of changes, the biggest being in 2008 when many clients adopted Online Methodology as it was  more cost effective and a very quick turnaround. However, face to face fieldwork projects have stood the test of time. Many projects require a level of regional detail that only face to face on the ground interviews can achieve.

Why did you choose to work with Spark?

We have a shared vision regarding high quality qualitative and quantitative research– we’re on the same page!

Can you give us a clue as to some of the big plans you have in-store for Spark?

Well I can’t give too much away, but Spark have ambitious plans for the future and I’ll be supporting Spark with growing the field and face to face side of the business. I’m really looking forward to the next chapter!
